Watch This!

While we were on vacation, Mr. Mister learned how to say, "Watch this!" He said it for the first time as he tried to jump off the bed into his pack n' play. (Thankfully, Daddy caught him and we quickly moved the pack n' play away from the bed.)

It sounds more like wad dis but he says over and over as he does something like spin in circles or roll on the ground, or his favorite, crawl across the floor. It is so cute and I love that he just wants us to watch what he's doing!

The other thing he learned on vacation was the song Happy Birthday. We were out to eat one night when the table next to us sang it to one of their friends (horribly off key, even to me who doesn't have a good ear for music!). But Mr. Mister loved it and wanted them to sing it again (we made sure they didn't). So now "Happy" has replaced "Yay" as his favorite song. He requests it every night before bed. I always laugh as I am rocking him and singing Happy Birthday. Oh the things I never knew I'd do as a mom!

The last and cutest thing he learned to say on vacation was his first and last name! His first name is still missing the "s" on the end and his last name is a little off, but it is really good for a boy who's not even 2! I think it's adorable when he says it and he knows it. So he says it with a big smile on his face - it doesn't get much cuter!

i promise that pictures are coming!

We're Back!

We just got home last night from a week at the beach! It was a much needed vacation - a week away from life. We really got to disconnect from everything back home, which was so refreshing.

It was just the three of us for the first half of the week - our first vacation with just our family. We had great family time and it was so good to get to focus on Mr. Mister without the distractions of life. On Thursday my mom and dad joined us (at their house!) and we had a lot of fun with them for the last three days.

Our week was really low key - we went to the beach every morning and he took a nap every afternoon. Then we cooked or went out to eat. That was about it. That's how vacation should be, right?

A big highlight for us was our 5th anniversary on Friday! My parents treated us to dinner and babysitting...yay!! We drove into Wilmington for a wonderful dinner and night out in the cute waterfront town. It was such a fun date. It's hard to believe it's been 5 years, but at the same time, it seems like we've been married forever.

Mr. Mister did so well in the car, thanks mostly to the DVD player we borrowed from my parents. Who knew a kid could watch Curious George so many times without getting tired of it? At first I felt bad for letting him watch so much TV, but on a 14 hour drive, he can do whatever it takes to keep him happy! I am so proud of him - it's not easy to sit still for that long.

Well, I think that's about it. Of course, I'll be posting pictures soon. I know that's what you really want to see!

Water

Mr. Mister loves water. He loves drinking it, bathing in it, swimming in it, splashing in it, stomping in it, dumping it, playing in it, looking at it, and anything else that has to do with it. It rained all last night, so today we went stomping in puddles. He liked saying, "Stomp feet in water!" (we've also been singing If You're Happy and You Know It so he's a pro at stomping his feet.) He also has to dump out any rain water that collects in the wagon or on the chairs outside.

The highlight of today was when we filled a shallow plastic storage bin with water and made our own little water table in the backyard. There was a little miscommunication, however, as I sent Daddy out with Mr. Mister to play in the water while I made dinner. I imagined them filling up and dumping out cups of water and splashing with their hands. But when I looked out the window, they were both drenched and Mr. Mister was sitting in the water having a blast. Oh well, they had lots of fun. Mr. Mister stopped to eat dinner, but nothing could get him inside afterwards. All he wanted to do was play in the water. He kept crying in desperation, "more water, in water, in water, more water!"

Daddy tried to teach him that pruny hands = time to go inside. I don't think it worked.

Babydoop

That means bathing suit - it is one of my favorite words Mr. Mister says now. He knows that I love his new words so he says them with a cute smile like he's just waiting for my smiling, excited response.

He has a favorite song on one of my cds that he calls "Yay" because it's a live version and there's people clapping in the background. Everytime we get in the car he says, "Yay?" and we listen to it over and over and over. It's the only song I've listened to in the car for a couple months. It's even the song that he wants us to sing him before bed. It's a good thing it's one of my favorites too.

Today in the car, after the song ended, he said, "more yay?" I love when he says more anything - it sounds more like "mo yay?" Just so cute.

Mout

Mr. Mister just put himself in time out. When he does something he knows gets a time out, he'll say, "mout?" and run over to the stairs where he sits with his arms crossed. He's over there right now saying, "beep, beep, beep. all done." He knows that when my watch beeps, the time out is over.
